We have awarded scholarships to students nationwide who demonstrated academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to community service. The vision of IASF is to instill in the applicants a strong sense of pride in the community that supports their academic objectives; and inspire applicants to donate to IASF in the future in order to continue the tradition of assisting deserving candidates.

2018-2019 Recipients

The Board of Directors of the Iranian-American Scholarship Fund (IASF) awards an annual named scholarship from the general fund on behalf of the Iranian-American community, to honor and/or memorialize an academic of Iranian heritage whose outstanding work and contributions deserve this special recognition.

This year, it is with great pride we allocate two such memorial scholarships to the late poet Simin Behbahani and the late professor Maryam Mirzakhani of Stanford University. Simin Behbahani was a contemporary poet, lyricist and activist. She was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize in literature, and received a number of literary honors around the world. This is our second year honoring Maryam Mirzakhani. She was the first woman, and the first person of Iranian heritage, to receive mathematics’ Field Medal. Their achievements in the fields of literature and mathematics are an inspiration and bring great pride to our global community.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all who have supported the IASF for the past 20 years. Scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year have been awarded to 22 outstanding applicants. 2017-2018 Recipients

The Board of Directors of the Iranian-American Scholarship Fund (IASF) awards an annual named scholarship from the general fund on behalf of the Iranian-American community, to honor and/or memorialize an academic of Iranian heritage whose outstanding work and contributions deserve this special recognition. This year, it is with great pride we allocate two such scholarships to Professor Cumrun Vafa of Harvard University and the late Professor Maryam Mirzakhani of Stanford University. Professor Vafa is the winner of the 2017 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and the late Professor Maryam Mirzakhani was the first woman, and the first person of Iranian heritage, to ever win the Fields Medal for mathematics. Their achievements in the field of physics and mathematics are a great inspiration to all and bring great pride to our global community.

The IASF Board would like to extend its sincere thanks to all who have supported this Scholarship Fund for the past 19 years. Scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year have been awarded to 25 outstanding applicants. This brings our total to 296 scholarships awarded to date. Houshang Seyhoun studied fine arts and architecture in Tehran and Paris. From 1961-68 he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture at Tehran University and throughout his productive career he designed many well-known buildings and monuments in Iran, such as the mausoleums of Avicenna in Hamadan, Umar Khayyam and Kamal al-Molk in Neyshapur, and Nader Shah in Mashhad, among others. Seyhoun was especially noted for his innovative and creative architectural design. During his lifetime he made significant contributions that impacted Iranian architecture while training a younger generation of distinguished Iranian architects.
